New Delhi: When Apple launched the iPhone on July 11, customers stood in line for days to get their hands on the gadget. And the new phone boasts of an advanced mobile standard called 3G or Third Generation.
While 1G mobile phones were only capable of turning voice into a radio wave, the 2G phones could digitise voice. Many such digitised voices fit into a single radio wave, so thousands of people can simultaneously make calls. Of course, they let users send SMS and browse the web.
3G, however, does a lot more.
“You can see the caller's live video on your screen as you talk. You could browse IBNLive, on your cell. You can download songs and videos from the web in 15 seconds flat — that's broadband Internet on your mobile,” Editor, Cell Passion, Rajat Agrawal explains.
While Indian experts rave about 3G, world is already dreaming about 4g. And what’s that? That’s when your fridge could SMS you it needs restocking.
