Beijing: India's boxing hope's brave face - Vijender Kumar – went down fighting on Friday. He got a bronze after losing in the semi final bout to Cuban Emilio Correa. CNN-IBN caught up with him after the match.
CNN-IBN: Now that you have won an Olympic medal, what do you have to say?
Vijender: Olympic medal was a dream come true for me. I wanted a little bit more but unfortunately I could not do it.
CNN-IBN: Even though you lost, you won. Isn’t it?
Vijender: I lost with three points. I put up a pretty tough fight. Ivander Holyfield has also appreciated my efforts. It was a pretty good fight, really.
CNN-IBN: Do you think you have moved ahead because, if you see, there was not much of a difference?
Vijender: Yes, there wasn't a big difference. What all shortcomings were there, I will have to improve them (sic). I will discuss with the coaches so that I do not repeat my mistakes.
CNN-IBN: Dreams are yet to be fulfilled, is it not?
Vijender: There are still goals to be achieved. I shall pursue them with my full efforts.
CNN-IBN: Now that you are an Olympics hero, and when you go back to India, what are your expectations?
Vijender: I really don't know. I will have to see what happens at the airport.
CNN-IBN: How are you going to handle modelling offers back home?
Vijender: I find boxing easier than modelling. I had once gone for a shoot but had to run away from there. I told them that I can play boxing (sic) but can't do modelling. However, I would like to tell my people back home that an Olympics champion should be received in the same manner as cricketers.
