New Delhi: Microsoft XP may be no more, but Vista is quickly taking its place.

"Every time we introduce an operating system, we've seen a little bit of concern among the user base of customers, where they ask, 'why'? It happened with XP and we see it with Vista. As more people adopt it, you'll see they will come to terms with it. So there are some apprehensions but none significant," says

So what can you expect with the new Windows Vista? Well, it's much better looking than XP and more fun to work with. But, Vista is a brand new operating system, so expect the occasional glitches.

However, watch out for Vista won't open ancient windows files like your old Word documents or your favorite games.

And a word of caution - don't load Vista on an assembled PC. Its hardware may not stand up to an assembled PC's demands. Instead, get a branded PC preloaded with Vista - and make sure it meets the specifications.

CIO Cyber Media, Krishna Kumar says, "If you do want to upgrade to Vista, you have to either enhance existing hardware, or buy a newer computer. Computers up to just one year old can't run Vista properly."

But PCs don't come cheap. So here's the bottom line. If all you want to do is write a few emails, dabble a bit in MS Word and Excel and surf the web, don't upgrade to Vista just yet.

Remember, the next version - Windows 7 - will be out in just two years.

However, if you are a die-hard XP fan, you can still buy the operating system from smaller retailers for another six months, and Microsoft will be providing support for another five years. Let's hope we are Vista-ready by then.
