Pune: With so many festivals round the corner, technology is also trying to contribute something to it.
Janmashtami is celebrated as Lord Krishna's (Govinda), birthday. Everyone knows that he use to love stealing and eating makhan (yellow butter) but for the first time Indians saw robots stealing butter cubes.
This was held for the first time in India, A B U Robocon saw robots from around the globe fighting – to steal yellow butter cubes.
“Govida, we almost had no idea what it was but when we heard it was a festival we have got the idea of it,” says Wataru Takahas from Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan.
“I understand it as a sport. It really has meaning and has true story but it requires skill. We had one team to make the robot and the other to plan how to move it,” says Li Hanjie from Xi'an Jiao Tong University.
Seventeen countries fought it out to be crowned "Makhan Chor" at the Maharashtra Institute of Technology in Pune. India didn't have a great showing - but at least our unique theme gave the visitors a tough time.
In the show the Govinda was too afraid. It was too difficult to reach that height it was one point five meters so it was difficult to get the accuracy and be stable and high speed and pick up first the yellow cube,” says Mohammad Yusuf Ramzi from Higher Technological Institute, Egypt.
This led to a lot of excitement. The winners - this Chinese team, who beat off Egypt by just one point to take the prize.
