Pune: Meet Robot Govinda, a robot designed by the students of Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune Swapnil Mishra and Rashida Merchant with one clear purpose – to break the handi (earthen pot) this Janamashtami

In fact, Robot Govinda is their entry in the ABU Robocon International Robot Competition that is being hosted in Pune this year

Explaining the their strategy, Mishra said, "As soon as the game starts one machine will lift the other machine. The first will also lift to a certain height. As soon as you reach the tower where there is a yellow butter cube, the machine will pick it up. So, the Govinda is achieved finally."

Merchant went on to explain that in order to make a robot, mech-tronics needed to be applied.

Robo Govinda is made using two wheels, two arms, some metal parts and lots of wires.

Few students specialising in mechanical, electronic, and computer engineering also were instrumental in putting the robot together.

A total of 8 months comprising of 12-hour days of hard work and a lot of patience have been spent in creating this robot.

Robot Govindas like from 17 different countries including China and Japan will compete to break a handi, which has no price money but does give these students a chance to show their skills in engineering.

The students will showcase their robots on the finals for ABU Robocon that will be held on August 31st at Pune's Maharashtra Institute of Technology.
