New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will begin his two-day tour of Maharashtra from Friday amid mounting pressure on the state government to control the street violence that’s been going on for a week now.
There are repeated reports of Raj Thackeray's men beating up north Indian migrant workers in the state and the situation remains sensitive for the fifth day.
The Prime Minister will arrive in Pune on Friday to unveil the statue of noted economist and social scientist Dr D R Gadgil at Pravaranmagar in Ahmednagar District.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray is also in Pune. Thackeray refused to speak to journalists and went straight to his residence in Western Pune. He is there to attend a sports event at the Police Parade Ground. But police have asked organisers of the function to change the venue keeping in mind the Prime Minister's visit.
Meanwhile, an MNS activist was murdered in broad daylight in Pune on Thursday by some unidentified persons. A local MNS leader said the murder had no political motivation.
PM's itinerary
Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone for the Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute at Gondia on February 9 evening.
The Institute is a joint venture between CAE, Canada, and the Airport Authority of India and would have a capacity to train100 pilots initially. It would have a state of the art training facility with the course material and training methodologies provided by CAE.
Dr Singh will arrive on Friday in Pune. He would unveil the statue of noted economist and social scientist Dr D R Gadgil at Pravaranmagar in Ahmednagar District.
On Saturday, he would attend the tenth Anniversary of the Mahindra United World College in Paud, on the lap of picturesque Sahyadri range. The college attracts students from 75 countries.
