Cape Cod, America: Scientists at the Marine Biological Laboratory are trying out a way to make fish respond to sound by calling to them. The experiment is being conducted to make fishing easier.

This is how it works, whenever the scientists feed their fish, they play a sound that the fish can hear.

The plan is when the fish understand that the sound means mealtime, they will be released into the wild. Months later, when the feeding call is played again, the fully-grown fish will come rushing back to waiting nets.

Marine Biological Laboratory's Scott Lindell explains, "It's a very simple 280 hertz tone and it carries very far in the environment, to the centre of the fish's sound and hearing response."

While commercial fishing costs in America have skyrocketed, catches have steadily come down; scientists are hoping the new technique will help the catches go up again.

A huge aqua dome will soon house and feed more than 6,000 fish and train them to respond to sound.

And in a few weeks, 5,000 fish will be released into the Atlantic. If they respond to the sound and swim back, fishing as we know it, will have changed forever.
