CITY UNDER ATTACK: Mumbai Police claim eight people they recently were involved in Ahmedabad blasts.
Mumbai: The city police claim the four software professionals arrested for alleged terrorist links sent threat e-mails minutes before the serial bomb blasts in Delhi and Ahmedabad.
They were among the 15 alleged Indian Mujahideen supporters arrested over a 10-day period, said Mumbai Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor on Monday.
Material seized during raids and interrogation of the 15 suspects reveals that the perpetrators were planning to strike Mumbai during the festive season of Navratri.
The alleged Indian Mujahideen supporters were arrested from Pune, Mumbai, Parbhani, UP and Mangalore. The police allege of eight of these people were involved in the Ahmedabad bombings and 10 in planting bombs in Surat. At least two of the 15 people arrested were involved in the Hyderabad blasts.
Investigations reveal that the explosives used in serial blasts in several cities was sourced from Mangalore and Bhatkal in particular. The ammunition recovered includes a machine gun, 10 kg of explosives, detonators, timers, sleep-inducing tablets, injections, two wireless sets, wi-fi detectors and radio frequency signal detectors.
Police allege the intention of these “terrorists” was to destabilise the country.
