London: A British bus company mechanic relishes the fact that he receives six million junk e-mails a year.

Forty years old Colin Wells has revealed that he started to receive 50 spam e-mails a day after signing up with an internet provider in 1999.

He says that the flow kept growing, and touched an all-time high 44,000 mails a day mark.

Wells says that he has received a staggering total of nearly 31million emails over the past nine years.

According to him, the spam mails come from “dodgy” firms offering everything from sex drug Viagra to cheap perfumes.

Wells says that he uses a filter to regulate the spam these days.

He, however, claims that he suffers “withdrawal symptoms”, and misses his daily routine of opening thousands of emails.

“I knew I was special when I started getting spam because there was an awful lot of it. For a couple of months I was clicking a link to stop them resending but I found out this basically confirms the email address as active,” British tabloid The Sun quoted Colin of Dawlish, Devon, as saying.

“From then on the amount of spam I was getting was doubling every couple of months. But it has been a part of my life for nearly a decade and I miss it,” he added.

Wells revealed that he would spend about two hours a day sifting through spam to find the “one or two” personal emails he wanted, and that up to 97 per cent of his inbox was made up of junk mail.

He said that it was only after installing a filter programme on his computer in 2007 that he realised how many spam e-mails he had been receiving.

He reckoned that he received six million spams over a period of 12 months.

“I could have closed down my email address but it is a part of me now. I have had it since the beginning,” he said.

“The emails would make me laugh. They are very clever at getting your attention and the majority would be advertising Viagra – I’m an expert on that topic now,” he added.
