Markets open in positive terrain on good Asian cues

Mumbai: The markets have opened in a positive terrain following good Asian cues and continued Wednesday's momentum further. Bankings, technology, and select oil and capital goods stocks are giving support to the markets.
At 0956 hrs IST, the Sensex was up 94 points at 14,314 and the Nifty up 18 points at 4,271. The Nifty June Futures was trading at 11 points discount and July Futures at 36 points discount. The CNX Midcap was up 60 points at 5,671.
Top gainers are Reliance Industries, HDFC, ICICI Bank and L&T. Other gainers amongst frontliners are Idea Cellular, Unitech, Suzlon, Hindalco, SBI, JP Associates, Tata Comm, Tata Steel and ITC. However, Bharti Airtel, HUL, Hero Honda, ONGC, DLF and Maruti Suzuki are draggers.
Asian markets were trading higher barring Shanghai. Hang Seng, Nikkei and Kospi gained 0.6 per cent each. Jakarta Composite rose one per cent and Straits Times up 0.8 per cent. However, Shanghai Composite fell 1.1 per cent.
The US markets ended on a positive note after some volatile action following the Fed's decision to interest rates unchanged. A drop in oil prices and modestly encouraging economic reports helped prop up the market.The Dow Jones advanced 4.40 points, or 0.04 per cent, to 11,811.83. The S&P's 500 Index gained 7.68 points, or 0.58 per cent, to 1,321.97, and the Nasdaq was up 32.98 points, or 1.39 per cent, to 2,401.26.
