Kanyakumari (Tami Nadu): In what appeared to be an attempt to run over two highway officials, a speeding ambassador car hit the officials as they stood next a bulldozer trying to remove a temple, which was encroaching on government land.

The two officials were overseeing the demolition of encroachment along the highway near Kanyakumari.

Minutes before the incident a local lawyer had allegedly got into a fight with the authorities as the officials tried to carry out the demolition.

CNN-IBN has an exclusive video that shows how car hit the two officials and threw them a few feet away when they were The car sped away soon after the incident. A policeman was also injured in the incident.

The officials were implementing a court order for demolishing encroachments along the highway.

Anthony Xavier, Divsional Engineer Higways Dept joins us on the phone

CNN-IBN questioned one of the injured Anthony Xavier who is Divisional Engineer Highways Department and currently in a hospital in Nagercoil on the phone.

"I feel very tired. My right side was hit and many parts of my body injured. There was also severe injury in the left hand and foot. Only the grace of God saved me. I just wanted to see the car number but I did not see the number. My head was bleeding due to head injury.

When asked whether he was able to recognise in that flash moment the attackers he said, "I was threatened as to how I was going to die and two minutes after that a white Ambassador came and dashed me.”

So was he certain that the people who attacked him were the people behind the incident?

"My junior engineer was injured and one constable was also injured but I was injured most,” he said.
