New Delhi: After the record breaking results of Saffronart's Contemporary Art sales of Rs 27 crore, the next big auction is slated to happen on March 18.

Let's start with expected list of top modernists first yes, there's Tyeb Mehta but a very different one with an estimate of Rs 2 crore. Next is Jagdish Swaminathan - from his Mountain and Bird series, estimated at Rs 2 crore again.

And before a Souza, Raza or Husain, next in line, instead is Rameshwar Broota's Ape Series with an estimate of Rs 1.2 crore.

With the contemporary artists breaking records and hitting the crore market, the contemporary lot in this auction seems a bit under priced - is that a big catch or what?

To start with, Subodh Gupta here one with an estimate of just Rs 52 lakh, Baiju Parthan for an estimate of just Rs 30 lakh or Chittravanu Majumdar for Rs 30 lakh again.

Osian's Art Advisor Meena Hingorani says, “Well, we go through a lot of research before we get out the estimate price. Is there any arts why you think we have priced as priced?"

So the moral of the story - there maybe hot contemporary names, but if the size of the works are small, don't go overboard to bid beyond up to a crore.

The Osian's auction happens in the capital on March 18.
