NO PARTY TIME: Party leaders said it’s the enemy within the BJP that put the party to shame.
New Delhi: A day after UPA won the trust vote in Parliament, angry BJP workers attacked the house of MP HD Sangliana for not voting with the BJP.
The same happened at the residences of all those who cross-voted. Upset that it was denied a chance of bringing the UPA Government down, the BJP acted swiftly - all the eight who abstained or cross-voted were expelled from the party.
BJP President Rajnath Singh said, “I am expelling all those who went them against the party.”
Those who abstained from the voting were:
Manorama Madhavraj
Chander Bhan Singh
Haribhai Rathore
Babubhai Katara
And the cross-voters were:
Brij Bhushan Saran Singh
Soma Bhai Patel
Manjunath Kunnur
H T Sanglania
For the NDA's prime minister-in-waiting it was an embarrassing situation that he found difficult to control. "Had they (BJP MPs) not done this the Government could not have won,” BJP leader LK Advani said.
It’s the enemy within the BJP that put the party to shame during the crucial vote of confidence, but now with elections not too far away the party would be hoping that it finds more friends and is able to put up a united front.
