New Delhi: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has started taking action against its Members of Parliament who defied the party whip and voted for the United Progress Alliance Government.
At least five-six BJD MPs voted in favour of the UPA and the party has now expelled its rebel MP from Aska, Hari Har Swain.
Orissa Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik said, "This man has not only betrayed the party but also lakhs of voters who had voted him on the BJD ticket. My party expels him and procedures are taken to disqualify him from Parliament. The UPA win is due to cash and unfair means as we have all seen."
Reacting his expulsion, Swain said, "I wanted to give Naveen Patnaik a shock. I was suspended by Naveen Patnaik and I wanted to teach him a lesson and for my self-respect I did this. I have yet not decided from which party I will contest the next election. I have taken no money. Naveen Patnaik might be knowing who gave money to whom, please ask him."
The Congress-led Government won the trust vote by a 19-vote margin on Tuesday after a two-day debate, amid charges of horse trading and bribing of MPs.
Manmohan Singh's Government secured 275 votes as against 256 by the Opposition with as many as 10 members abstaining from voting.
