A minister in Tamil Nadu has resigned after an audio recording of her asking a policeman for a favour was released. The minister is heard telling the policeman to go slow on a corruption case involving a relative. Opposition parties in the state say now T R Baalu should also resign, because he asked the PMO for gas allotment for a family owned company.

Pro-Kannada activists plan to black out Tamil TV channels and stop the screening of Tamil films in Karnataka from Wednesday to protest against their neighbouring state’s plan to move ahead with the Hogenakkal drinking water project. M K Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, celebrated his 56th birthday on Saturday.
