Mumbai: Honesty may no more be a priority on the mind of an Indian job seeker. According to a survey by First Advantage, a US-based multinational background check firm, three out of every 10 job seekers in India fake their CVs to get a job. And the malpractice is not merely a notional one.

IT giant TCS has told CNBC TV18 that it recently found discrepancies in the resumes of some of its employees.

Sources say that the company has taken a stringent view of the situation and sacked the 20 culprits. Corporates across the board are now looking to stem the rot early because the damage often does not stop at merely getting the job.

“By submitting fake CVs, these people demonstrate that they are not scared of the system. Thus, they are the ones who are more likely to commit larger frauds later,” MD-West Asia Ops, First Advantage, Ashish Dehade said.

Dishonesty in such a scenario can range from inflating past salaries and submitting fake certificates to fudging university mark sheets and misrepresenting academic qualifications.

Traditionally, infotech, IT enabled services, banking and insurance sectors were susceptible to such fraudulence. But the survey says that frauds have more than doubled in the last six months in booming sectors such as consumer goods, retail, health care and travel.

So while frauds in financial sectors look more lucrative prompting job seekers to lie their way in, the manpower crunch in booming sectors can also make them susceptible to hasty intake.
