Its when you stay outside India that you realize more that things like these, reservations and quotas are what is hampering India's growth. We would have been a lot more ahead if it weren't for these sick politicians.

This is a black day in the history of independent India. The decision to give 27 percent reservation to OBC's will be killing the opportunities for General category students. The reservation will increase the hatred between castes. This hatred will turn into violence and will slow the pace of wheel of Indian development. Befor implementing the reservation in higher institutions the govt should improve the basic structure of primary education. The OBC students are getting a very low level of education from govt schools. This makes their level not upto the mark to get into d premier institutes.Due to which institutes are forced to lower the cut offs. The only solution to reservation is the good quality education at primary level to all.

WILL ANY OF THE SO-CALLED BACKERS of the OBCs Quotas kindly publish in the Newspapers as to "HOW MUCH MONEY THEIR POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE EXPENDED ON THE Primary School EDUCATION OF OBCs?"
I AM SURE THEY WILL NOT HAVE THE GUTS TO come up with a "SINGLE PAISA"!

What will happen to the economically backward people in the so called creamy layer? How are you going to take care of them? With 50+% percentage quota, doeas the "CREAMY LAYER"term suitable????? Are we not the backward class in India? Wake up and bring this government down. They will only then understand. There is urgent need for good and capable people in politics of India. This is a big foot back for development of India.

Swaroop Sreerama
This is an important lesson to the youth of India who abstain from voting thinking that their one vote doesn't make a difference. Every vote counts people. Wake up India!

Funny that there is no comment. The government has given in to the whims of OBCs who were politically powerful from time immemorial but realize that education can bring in prosperity only now. Mr.Raja I think will spit venom on forward caste even in his sleep. His ideological gurus have screwed up the rest of the world like Russia china nd Cuba and also places like Bengal Tamilnadu and Kerala

Why not have a quota for the general candidates, and leave out the rest for the 'backward', 'most backward', almost backward', scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, religious minotities, 'will shortly be very backward' etc. By the way, so many of our SC and ST friends are in good government jobs, and their children enjoy the benefits of these reservations, I just wonder if India will apply for a seat on the UNSC stating they are the 'most backward nation' in the world? Will this carry on 'ad infinitum'? Any clarifications?

Dhananjay
Its amusing how people contradict themselves. Hanumanta Rao says merit is not a monopoly of particular category and sites the example of fisherman from Andhra who topped IAS, if thats the case why do you require reservations? Anirudh says already 24% of students at institutes of higher education belong to OBC, then why is he concerned about just a 3% increase or fall in merit. For the 24% who are already there have made it on their own merit. In all the discussions what gets ignored is the fact that only 10% of population make it to college stage. Quality of primary education is dismal. Unless you provide equality of oppurtunity at grass root levels, the one at apex doesn't have any meaning. And once that is provided, reservations or no reservations enough people from OBC's or SC-ST will make it to any institutes. Isn't it a failure of Indian state that even after 60 years of idependence roughly 3 generations of people we are nowhere near getting that equality and all that is done is token and for political gains.
