more Abhishek Gupta I was appearing for my engineering competitive exams.I always use to get more marks than one of my classmates from OBC category,i bet i was better than him.He got admission in one the government colleges, i did not...thanks to OBC quota in UP.Presently i am working for one of the top IT companies in India, just because i have that capability. Now i am preparing for my MBA. What if the same story repeats.I know my capabilities and i am sure that i will do my MBA from one or the other good college.
I just want to ask one question to all the supporters of quota. What if in future i come across a guy who has been getting the ADVANTAGE of Quota throughout his education, as my colleague in one of the global companies.Who will give him quota then? Finally after all the education and all they have to prove themselves on their own...no one is going to give them reservations then.I am not against this quota issue but atleast keep aside the premier institutes like IIMs, atleast not at the cost of a general category candidate who deserves admission on the basis of his capability. Everyone thinks about the SC, ST and OBC ...what about the deserving candidates who are left behind due to this........ you want to reserve the seats ,reserve it ...no issues...but first increase the number of seats so that the deserving candidates don't suffer.......and if the seats can't be increased, give all the facilities to the SC, ST, OBC candidates ,give them free education ,give them free training , give them books free of cost , give them scholarships but please please please don't deprive us from the education WE deserve.I have felt this STING once ..... don't want to feel it again.
With due regards to all the SC, ST, OBC candidates.
I am not questioning your capabilities but just want to say that after doing all the hard work, spending nights studying to get a seat in these premier institutes...when we are told that 50.5% seats meants for us are full,49.5% still remaining, it really pains.

naveen with this verdict i think upper class will move away from congress. May be this move could boomerang. Even though bjp has been the first choice party for upper class, they did loose them because of the communal violence. But now i think they will back BJP again.

UmaMahesh The same OBC qota with creamy layer should be applied for MLAs and MPs also. Does any party have the guts to do so ?

Niraj Kanojia There is no place for General category in India. Only SC/ST/OBC/Corrupt Politicians rule the country.

krvittal The same old Congress and are the other parties who have been ruling us for so long, nothing had been done for 50 years Why? as rightly pointed out by somebody our 200 mps of obc what have they done for upliftment. The rich continue to be richer and the poor will be poorer.Even after 50 yrs we will see people fighting for Quota. This Quota should be decided only on the basis of economic status of a person , a real research done by some external party and find out how many so called OBC are really backward and how many are not and how many forward communities are backward and what steps to be taken for ensuring equall status for all. Also Education upto graduation needs to be free and ensure that the local bodies and government are given targets to ensure this. These are the same people who design the scheme and give lame reasons for not delivering.

LETTERS c/o EDITOR 11- 04-2008

Sir,
Sub: Quota politics

The recent Apex Court's judgment is appreciated by most people mainly politicians as they are the real beneficieries.

We have completed 60 years of independeence and still hanging on to quota, reservation etc is nothing but shame on our country and its politicians. This is my firm and frank views, as quota divides the nation and gives room for conflicts, more fake certificates and corruption. The greatest beneficieries of the quota are politicians and their ilk and not the actually deserved. This we have seen all these days.

What is essentially required is good schools with infrastructure, dedicated teachers, a suitable teacher student ratio to teach and assimilate properly which is lacking. When so many politicians and people are appreciating the the Apex Court judgment, why threy don't bother to think of previous Apex court judgnent on Afzal Guru?. Is that also not for the interest of the country and its common people's safety and security?

sham sundar This was a term created out of need to garner or should i say corner votes. Whom are we talking about...

Most of these "OBCs" are landing owning castes in this country in fact in many cases they have been the chief tormentors of the Dalits of this country...Numerically too their numbers are disputable...Social justice concept is thing that has to be sold to people.

what this country needs in integration...and a sort of reconciliation between various segments...this cannot be achieved by antogonising other people. The court has rightly taken this mellowed approach...
