A letter to the Left
Lal Salaam Comrades!
Your tenure in government seems to have ended. How different things were four years ago! Four years ago you were faced with a unique opportunity. The "communal" BJP-led NDA had... Read The Article
Your points appear to be valid.Left has been simply threating congress for the past few years simply in the name of Nuclear Deal. If they did not wish to have their support to Nuclear Deal they might have withdrawn their support earlier. But they did not do so,with blackmailing continuing every day. Today is the world of globalization. US, European countries outsource jobs to India and other developing countries... This is one of the reasons for the economic growth of India. If the LEFT dont like America they would soon say US should not outsource jobs or IT companies should not do US projects. ridiculous.......

Yes Madam, you mentioned all the points. But you failed to address two important supplementary questions. 1. Just because of thousands of Indians are in US for their livelihood, our great nation should act as slave to US govt. 2. When we say Nuclear deal is merely a energy business, why seller (US govt.) fixing the deadline to finish his business deal and giving sustain pressure with threating kind of words to the buyer (great INDIA).

The Left had decided to support the UPA government in order to keep the communalists out. The Indo-U.S. deal was even nowhere on the horizon at that time. The threat from the communalists not only persists but has become much stronger now. The Left must therefore spare a moment to reflect if it has served the goal of strengthening of those forces or has done just the opposite. as for the Nuclear Deal the Left, the UPA, and the BJP are all trying to beguile the people. If the BJP thinks it would be able to secure a better deal, it is living in the other paradise. The UPA is trying to impress on us that the life will come to a standstill if the deal was to fall through, it is not telling the whole truth. Similarly, heavens are not going to fall on us if the deal comes through and the Left knows that only too well but has reasons other than those entirely based on reason for saying so. The deal may or may not go through but one thing is certain that the Left would also pay a heavy price at the next election for its intransigeince.

Very good Sagarika , you and your beloved editor in chief are loyal to the last dollar to your "Masters" from Jan path.... While it is a blunder that we are shunning away from the use of alternate sources of energy, the fact that your masters are talking about the same is like “Devil preaching Gospel"... Millions of true patriotic Indians can not and will not believe the "sudden keenness" in the national welfare from the architects of “Bofors" where the country was looted of Billions in the guise of National Security. One day or other in the future, the real motives behind the enthusiasm shown by your beloved “Masters" will come to light... However, kudos to your loyalty and tireless service as propaganda secretary role!!!!

Sagarika, bravo! i am a doctoral student at iim bangalore and the only picture one gets of the leftists in india is a bold face egoisitc attitude and a a pair of blind eyes towards the world realities! every word in your blog is so true, so loaded! The non emotive faces of Prakash Karat in the press conferences these days shows a lost cause of the Left parties, hollow yet noisy! i hope the leftists are 'left' behind far in this era of globalisation!

I dont understand what ideology the left talks about. It takes inspiration from china, which shifted into the capitalism gear years ago(of course under the communist mask, which is all the left sees). You ask any Indian who understands the plus points of the deal and can see beyond politics and he'll tell you if the left makes sense. I'm sure that even if USA offers a donation of a zillion gazillion dollars for the poor of india, the left will say no. why? for the simple reason that it is from america(of course that wont be their projected reason, they'll probably end up using terms like pro-america is bad and dont mislead the people). I thank the heavens that the Samajwadi party came out as a messiah for the UPA. I am not bothered about what they may gain politically from doing this, but all i know is what India will gain overall from their doing this. I wish that the N-deal goes forward unopposed now. I would give anything not to miss the expression on Mr. Karat's face when the deal is operationalised and strengthens India manyfold, shattering the so called ideologies of the left. This 'untouchable' behaviour of the left towards america is unacceptable in today's world. They may like it or not, but america is a superpower. A superpower which we should utilize rather than ignore. And so Mr. Karat, to hell with your ideology and communalistic ideas. India needs to go higher with more energy resources and for that to happen we could do with a fewer Mr.Karat's. GO INDIA!

That was a good article on the Indian Left. However if the Left follows those things, then it wont remain Left anymore. Thats their problem.
PS: Sagarika: I saw face the nation and you have the habit of talking OVER your guests. In the Editor's panel, you talked over Chandan Mitra atleast twice. He is NOT your husband!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a guest. You ask good questions but you should learn the art of interupting without interrupting. A small suggestion.

1.Something as sensitive as a Nuclear deal takes place, and the citizens of this country are comfortable with the fact that it won't be made public. (even though IAEA has no resrvations to it being made public )
2. 4 years on , i am sure not many among us know what the "CMP" is all about. It was drafted and made public 4 years ago. So who is to blame for our ignorance?
3. and oh ya ! Aren't we all enjoying this? Let's blame the communist states.
I am sure the Nuclear deal says something about the disposal of the Nuclear waste we create (Obviously we use it, we dispose it). Where exactly are we going to dump it?
Sure, Ms Ghose has it all figured out already
